Some names conjure up entire pages of fashion history on their own. Charles Jourdan is one of them. Automatically associated with the Bourg de Péage factories and the photographer Guy Bourdin, this is the shoemaker through whom French elegance was exported worldwide.

The saga began after the Second World War, when Mr. Charles Jourdan opened his workshop in Romans. Success followed success at an alarming speed, which demonstrated the fascination for the brand. Cinema icons Marlène Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe and Edith Piaf all fell for the charms of these shoes. Shops were opened under the brand name and there was a great deal of collaboration with legendary couturiers such as Dior. Then Guy Bourdin photographed this success, producing some very avant-garde visual campaigns with surrealistic and suggestive aspects that were to remain in the collective memory. This was followed by a period of intense competition that hindered the rise of Charles Jourdan. The Royer Group was looking to develop its luxury offer and took over control of the brand in 2008. The Bourg de Péage workshop re-opened its doors and the brand was once more involved in a wide range of collaborative projects.
The brand’s new product range is defined by avant-garde construction and a sophisticated, ultra-feminine structure. The latest collections reflect the saga: they are both legendary and modern.

Charles Jourdan shoes are distributed via leading multi-brand shops, specialists and department store corners, and are also available in the brand’s own shops. The flagship shop in rue François 1er in Paris perfectly illustrates the brand’s image and personality, with black and white contrasts enhanced by touches of red to give a futuristic, feminine finish.
